California & Steampunk

I had such a wonderful time in Huntington Beach, California last week. It was a spur of the moment kind of trip. Got a good deal on a round trip, (back-packed it so we wouldn’t have to pay for luggage).
We went to the beach, which was unseasonably hot at 91 degrees. Got sunburned, and I put on this wonderfully soothing aloe vera stuff that was to keep me from peeling. But today I noticed I am peeling on my chest. Ah, well. I’ll have to sunbathe to keep it up. Last night and tonight it rained–huge thunder boomers!
I’m so into Steampunk now. I read about it somewhere and it’s fascinating. It’s scifi, an era that never was, but one that
we wish had been. An era where airships waged war in the skies, and corsets and cummerbunds were proper adventuring attire. The setting can post- apocalyptic with swashbuckling adventure. Or it can be in Victorian Times, but altered, with fantasy or steam machines that never were developed.

We’re going back to California in July; I’m hoping I’ll get to see Abney Park, a Steampunk rock band, although I think they are coming to San Diego sometime in September. But the band and customers dress in Steampunk, which is Victorian but altered, if that makes sense.
But Steampunk I like is a post apocalypse world where steam driven technology is the energy source. The author can come up with their own inventions and have the technology sprinkled with magic. I think it’s totally awesome.
I am an aspiring author who loves reading as much as writing! Here I will showcase authors who have caught my attention, who I have dubbed "Candy's Godivas". All week we'll be chatting to get to know my chosen authors.
Here's the setup:
